Medicare rebate information for Healthy Sole Podiatry

Healthy Sole Podiatry is not a bulk-billing clinic. Patients are required to pay the full consultation fee at the time of their appointment. Medicare will then rebate a portion of this fee, as per their official fee schedule, which is available on the Medicare website.

Our team can process your Medicare rebate immediately during your visit. The rebate will be transferred directly into your bank account using our HICAPS system, so there is no need for you to visit a Medicare office. Our staff will handle everything for you on the spot.

Does Medicare or the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) cover the full cost of podiatry appointments?

Healthy Sole Podiatry accepts referrals from both Medicare and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA).

However:

  • Medicare does not cover the full cost of podiatry services. Patients with an eligible Medicare referral may receive a rebate for the consultation fee, but any additional services, such as footwear modifications, orthotics, or minor surgical procedures recommended by the podiatrist, will incur out-of-pocket expenses.
  • DVA Referrals may cover certain podiatry costs. Read our DVA Podiatry page for more information and please consult with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs to confirm the details of your coverage.

Which Medicare referrals are eligible for rebates?

Eligible Medicare referrals fall under the Enhanced Primary Care Plan (EPC) program. Key details include:

  • The EPC referral provides up to 5 Medicare-funded allied health appointments per calendar year.
  • Individuals of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent may qualify for an additional 5 appointments annually.
  • Referrals must be submitted using specific Medicare forms that clearly indicate “Enhanced Primary Care Plan (EPC).” Letters from your GP are insufficient.
  • EPC referrals are typically for patients with chronic medical conditions, such as diabetes.
  • The allocated visits may be split among multiple allied health providers. For instance, your GP could allocate 3 podiatry visits and 2 physiotherapy visits within the same year.

How to confirm your eligibility

To determine if you qualify for an Enhanced Primary Care Plan, consult your GP. Your GP must issue the referral directly to Healthy Sole Podiatry for Medicare to provide the rebate. Read our blog post on Primary Care Plan eligibility requirements
